Livingston Academy - English I
In this class, the student will study short stories, poetry, drama, and non-fiction. A very strong emphasis will be placed on developing writing skills, sharpening grammar skills, and improving reading skills.
-30% will come from daily grades. These may include homework and classwork. It is extremely important that all assigned work is completed when due. Coming to class prepared and punctual is the first step in doing well in this area of grading. Daily assignments are not only grades in and of themselves, but they are also the building blocks for doing well on later exams and writing assignments.
-45% will come from tests/writing assignments/project grades. We will take tests to assess learning from class, homework, reading, etc. Formats for tests will vary, but most will include some objective items (multiple choice, multiple select, matching, etc.) along with some short essay items. Writing will take many forms (paragraphs, essays, etc). At least one large writing assignment will be given each 9 weeks.
-25% will come from quizzes. These may be given over reading assignments or grammar/writing concepts that are being studied.
Chromebooks will be used each day in class. Make sure it is charged before you come to class.
Textbooks may be used on occasion, such as when the internet is down.
Although we usually use the Chromebooks daily, please bring paper and pencil to each class.
Tissues and Hand sanitizer are appreciated.
Policies and Procedures:
